Social Security provides retirement, disability, family and survivors benefits to workers and their dependents if they meet certain requirements.
General Program Requirements:
SSA administers the Supplemental Security Income program which provides benefits to people who meet the following requirements:
- Are at least age 65
- Blind or disabled
- Have limited income and assets, and meet other requirements.
- The Special Veterans Benefits program provides special benefits to certain World War II Veterans. SSA also processes applications for enrollment in the Medicare program.
