Program Description:

The National Endowment for the Arts annually awards up to twelve one-time-only National Heritage Fellowships for master folk and traditional artists. These fellowships are intended to recognize the recipients' artistic excellence and support their continuing contributions to our nation's traditional arts heritage. This fellowship category is not open to application. Fellowships are awarded on the basis of nominations from the public. The individuals who are nominated should be worthy of national recognition; they should have a record of continuing artistic accomplishment and must be actively participating in their art form, either as practitioners or as teachers. In addition, one National Heritage Fellowship per year may be awarded to an individual whose achievements have made major contributions to the excellence, vitality, and public appreciation of the folk and traditional arts.


General Program Requirements:

In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a US citizen or permanent resident with current or past professional experience as a practicing artist, who is recognized in your field for significant contributions to art, humanities or through humanitarian efforts.
