Program Description:
This competition is designed exclusively for middle school age students who must work in teams of three or four with an adult coach. It challenges students to identify a problem in their community and solve it using science and technology. The program is designed to foster curiosity, creativity and critical thinking skills in students with diverse backgrounds, interest and abilities. Each member of two Gold Medal winning teams are awarded U.S. Savings Bonds, and one winning team is given the $25,000 Columbus Foundation Community Grant to develop its idea in the community.
Selection:There are three judging levels. Finalist teams travel all expenses-paid to Walt Disney World Resort for the final judging and attend the Christopher Columbus Academy. One team wins the $25,000 grant to take back to their community to make their idea a reality.

This competition is open to all U.S. students in grades six through eight.

Entries will be accepted from teams of three or four students in grades six to eight with a coach. All team entries must include: a Christopher Columbus Awards Entry form (signed by the team members and the coach), a team-written section and the visual component.
