Program Description:
West Virginia's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program is WV WORKS. It is based on the goals of assisting economically dependent and at-risk families to become self supporting, enhancing the well-being of children, and on assisting families near the poverty level to remain self-sufficient.WV WORKS provides monthly cash assistance to eligible families. Most people who receive a monthly WV WORKS check also receive Food Stamps and Medicaid, but these are not guaranteed based just on receipt of a check.
General Program Requirements:
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of West Virginia, either pregnant or responsible for a child under 19 years of age, a US national, citizen, legal alien, or permanent resident, have low or very low income, and be either under-employed (working for very low wages), unemployed or about to become unemployed.
