> Education Exchange-Teaching Excellence Awards Program
Program Description:
The Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA) provides secondary teaching professionals with five or more years of classroom experience in disciplines including English as a Second Language, English Language or Literature, social studies, math, or science with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge about the United States. Under the TEA program, more than one hundred international secondary school teachers from Eurasia, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Western Hemisphere will come to the United States to participate in a six-week professional development program, which will include pedagogy seminars, curriculum development training, and instruction in new teaching methodologies, at one of four selected U.S. universities.
The program will also feature a two week internship at a U.S. secondary school, which will allow the participants to enhance their practical teaching skills in a U.S. student-centered classroom environment. This component of the program will be followed by a reciprocal visit of approximately 80 U.S. teachers to these regions for two weeks where they will collaborate on joint projects to build on the linkages established during the U.S.-based program for international teachers.
