> Nutrition Assistance For Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico operates this program in place of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Eligibility requirements and benefit amounts are determined by Puerto Rico. Currently, Puerto Rico targets 75 percent of nutrition assistance benefits to the purchase of food, while providing 25 percent in cash through the Commonwealth's electronic benefits transfer system.
General Program Requirements:
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must live in Puerto Rico and you must fall into one of two groups: (1) those with a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) under $2,001 who are responsible for a person or persons age 60 and under or (2) those with a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) under $3,001 who are responsible for a person or persons age 61 and over. Those group (1) and group (2) qualifiers must also have an annual household income of less than $4,081 if one person lives in the household; less than $5,389 if two people live in the household; less than $6,697 if three people live in the household; less than $8,005 if four people live in the household; less than $9,301 if five people live in the household; less than $10,621 if six people live in the household; less than $11,917 if seven people live in the household; or less than $13,225 if eight people live in the household. For larger households, add $1,308 for each additional person in the home.
