Program Description:

The U.S. Department of State sponsors international Teacher Exchanges, including Fulbright exchanges, to a number of countries for teachers and administrators from K-12 schools for educators of all subjects. For U.S. teachers, this opportunity involves a year, semester or from two to eight week program abroad. Please see the "Teacher Exchanges" link on our website under "Application Process" below for information.Teacher Exchanges allow educators to gain new perspectives and professional expertise, learn about a new education system and culture and share knowledge and insights about their own, become a member of an international community of educators, and gain understanding and appreciation of the similarities and differences between nations.

 

General Program Requirements:

To meet the basic eligibility requirements of the program a candidate must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen,
  • Hold a valid U.S. passport (or be in the process of obtaining one),
  • Be fluent in English and hold at least a Bachelor's degree (Master??s degrees are required for some programs),
  • Have a current full-time teaching or administrative assignment in the U.S. or in one of its territories,
  • Be in at least the third year of full-time teaching or administration; some programs require a minimum of five years of teaching experience, and
  • For the Fulbright program, not have participated in a Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program longer than eight weeks in the last five years.
